Fox 26 News Anchor Melissa Wilson was the guest speaker at Texas Southern University communication week writing workshop.
As the workshop concluded Wilson offered advice to students who were eager to learn and become apart of sports media.
I think the best advice is just at this point in your life, is to get an internship at a local TV station and follow those sports reporters”, Wilson said.
The Houston Morning Show anchor didn’t hold , Wilson was very direct while discussing the heavy load that sports journalist go through.
A lot of the Times the sports reporters, if it does fit your schedule, you can at least follow a sports photographer and be with them and go to those events and see what it's like”,Wilson said.
And make sure that you're okay with those deadlines and travel because they are busy and, and just making sure that you understand what their life is like It's a very exciting life, but it's a 24-four life”, Wilson said.
A great way for an aspiring sports reporter to gain knowledge of their career is right here in town, to key is not being afraid to reach out to the local media.
The reporters who has the title or position students yearn for and hope to one day achieve.
And just talking to some of those sports guys, you know, I think so many people in town while to try to help young minds, if you could even see if they would let you sit down with them and see what it's like to be a day in their life”, Wilson said.
The gems that Melissa Wilson gave to the students of Texas Southern University , and those who work at KTSU 2 a student run radio station was thoughtful.
Dropping gems , while giving out informative nuggets one could say Melissa Wilson went above and beyond her job title for that day.
